I observe a waste of energy devoted to bending the rules to achieve absolutely nothing. Was Phil offended? Is there some kind of genuine issue we are debating here? Since there isn't, I'm really not interested in bending.
There are absolutely zero consequences to putting a label next to Phil's name. It's nothing personal, nor should it be taken to be. If he reaches 3 unexcused absences then we can talk about giving him an extension, but I really doubt that will happen.
Also, guys -- since when did your parent have to tell you that we have a board meeting coming in order for you to attend? I mean seriously. Board meetings are on general meeting nights, it's that simple.
That's my honest assessment in any case.

It seems like we are going to give Phil a pass even though all he needs to
do is send an email next month to clear the unexcused absence.  Of course,
we would really prefer him to join us.
