I think the club should purchase a good solar scope. I think the Coronado SolarMax 90mm telescope is a good example. (Price tag $5K currently- several dealers have it "on sale" at that price.) Maybe Scope City might offer us a special price??

I think that the scope is something special the club could use at the star parties, i.e. the Golden State Star Party and  Cal Star, and to a lesser extent at other events, even school star parties. I think this would be an good addition to our public outreach and enhance what the club has to offer. I was impressed with the views I had a couple years ago at Shingletown when it was on exhibit, but I never was able to have enough time on the scope.

I am particular not impressed with the small "PST" ( Approx $500) or personal binoculars ( Approx $200).

I am not thinking that it would be in the loaner program, but it is something that someone who is a "regular" participant in the Star Parties would keep and bring to designated events.
