[SJAAboard] Reuse material

The {public} reader's digest version is that the city is going to outsource
several of the older and less used community centers. Since the construction of
Camden by the Measure P funds, all of the Houge activities except a senior table
tennis group and us were relocated. The Parks Department does not want to
maintain the buildings any more, but was prevented by the council in 2006 from
directly bulldozing them. The compromise is that the city would solicit some
"community group" to assume control of these buildings. They call this the
"Reuse" plan.

These links are to the city documents on the reuse program. These were approved
by the city council during its April 22 meeting. This work is a culmination of
several years of back and forth between the council, the parks department,
users, and community groups.

Mike was primarily involved with this, but he had me along at several of the
meetings. During one of those meetings we met the senior official who
intervened to get our reservation approved last week.

What happens if no group steps forward? Well that gets into the part of the
discussion I do not wish Googleable.
