I agree.  And I would bet that's the experience of most people, since I expect it is a rarity to
find 17" scopes one can borrow.  It is certainly how I have grown in the hobby.  I'd bet 99% of
larger scope owners followed the path that Rich and I did.  It seems to work.

But I will admit that on occasion, we might run into someone who fits that < 1% exception.  They
might even end up being evangelists for how they grew in the hobby! ;-)
