This is very sad news. Paul Barton was one of the first SJAA members I met
when I got back into amateur astronomy in the late 1980s. He and his dog Lady
were fixtures at Fremont Peak and Henry Coe star parties representing the SJAA.

Paul was the right person for newbie amateur astronomers to come in contact with.
He made you comfortable being at the star parties. He was wonderful about
answering questions.

Paul was hard of hearing, I believe due to the noise on the airplanes in WWII. Maybe
that was why he didn't notice the raccoon grab his dinner basket at Coe. The raccoon managed
to take it quite a few yards away into the brush. I believe by that time his dog Lady had passed.

Paul was a great guy and a real gentleman. Rest in peace, Paul.

Rich
