Hi All,
???? First let me apologize for the question marks that always show up on my emails.

???? If we decide we want to accept the? Cave telescope as a donation- which I think is a definite yes, and nobody else want s to do it, I will call the donor.? If the donation sounds uncomplicated I will go and get it and store it at my house for as long as necessary.? My experience with these telescopes (which goes back to the 70's) is they are optically great and overall good telescopes.
???? I will be going to Berkeley for a continuing ed seminar this weekend, and Kensington is quite close by, so I will try to contact the donor and arrange to pick it up.? If we don't want it for the loaner program, then we can sell it.? If anybody else wants this project, please feel free to take over as that would be fine with me.
???? I went back over to Alice Frayne's house last night and got 2 tripods which were left over from Thomas Frayne's stuff.? I expected to get the lost tripod from the old orange C8 (which was missing it's tripod).? However, I got a Meade tripod of comparable size along with a wedge.? I don't know if the orange C8 will fit this tripod, but I'll see.
???? The other tripod was a small one with an equatorial mount and rings for what I believe fits a 60mm telescope.? It was missing it's counterweights and bar, but it might be in the other items from him.
???? I don't hink either of these items from last night were purchased with the stuff I previously got from the Fraynes.
???? Bye for now,
??????????????? Lee

As to the size, we just don't know yet. Here is another web-page with
info about the Cave Astrola line:

Lee graciously offered to help. What we need are a few things:

What is included in the donation
Condition of the equipment
Photos if possible.
Focal Length or Ratio
Value

Perhaps we know some knowledgeable amateur astronomer who lives near the
donor who can visit and report to us?

Regarding the sale of the telescope, once we have the specifics, and if
we decide it makes sense, we can immediately advertise it on the SJAA
announce list. If that does not get us a buyer, we can go to TAC with it.

It is possible we can sell it and the buyer picks it up from the donor,
and thereby avoid the storage issue.

Of course, if the club wanted to offer it at the upcoming auction, we
can keep the SJAA announce and TAC lists as backup places to offer it.

I think it is a sweet looking scope.... it could be one heck of a lunar
and planetary instrument.

Mark
