A few highlights from the AANC Board meeting this morning (Feb 24th).

We did discuss the issue of how to voice our opinions on state park closings
and stay within the rules for a 501-c3. I've sent out a note to the SJAA Board
list about this issue and the AANC's response.

A lady (Vivian?) involved in the Night Sky Network has been making a list of
activities by different astro clubs in the greater SF Bay Area that would
be of interest to astro newbies. The AANC wants to be a single point for information
about the activities of local astronomy clubs. I believe the AANC will add a link
to her site from the AANC site. Part of her interest in the Globe At Night project and
Project Astro. I mentioned that virtually all of the SJAA activities are open to the public
and can be found on out website. Vivian's one concern is that some activities
(such as a guest speaker) may be too advanced for the people she is working with.

There is in the works a Davis Star Show for this year. It may be either Aug 9th or Sept 6th.
They wanted a Saturday near a first quarter moon.

The AANC is looking for input on how to improve the Star BBQ held each year
at Fremont Peak. While this event had been going well, there is concern about the
cost, given that the food is free and the event is open to the public. At this time the
cost of the food is split between the FPOA and AANC. It sounded as if the total
cost was roughly $700.

I didn't get the speakers name but the NASA Kepler project apparently has speakers
available and on the Kepler.NASA.Gov site there is a place to submit names to be
placed on the space craft. The site may not be completely ready yet.

This morning I "attended" the AANC Board meeting by phone, as did most of the
people involved.

You may want to read the AANC minutes when they are available. I'm sure there
may be some items I've missed in this note.
