General Meeting Programs - Dave Smith
-------------------------------------
Frank Marchis's work schedule will probably have him
out of town for the February meeting, so he will move
down, probably to June 21. Friedemann Freund (SETI /
SJSU) will step in to take the February 16 time slot.
So the schedule stands as follows:
Jan 19 Jeff Moore (NASA)
--Pluto Express Update: Jupiter Encounter
Feb 16 Friedemann Freund (SETI/SJSU)
--All those Organics up in the Night Sky
Mar 22 Adrian Brown (SETI)
--Latest Results from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
Apr 19-20
--Auction
May 17 Dr. Dana Backman (SETI/Ames)
--Nearby Stars & debris disks: A Ringside Seat to
Planet Formation
Jun 21 Frank Marchis (UCB)
--Binary Asteroids
Dave elected not to continue serving on the board
when his term is up, but he has generously agreed to
continue his work on the general meeting programs.
Thanks Dave!

Continuing Email Problems
-------------------------------------
There seems to be no way to send formatted emails to
the board list. Rob made a motion to allow reports to
be included in meeting minutes using references so
long as the files those references point to are
archived permanently (so the links do not break). The
motion was seconded by Mark Wagner and it was approved
by unanimous vote. 7 voted in favor of the motion.
There were no abstentions or oppositions.
-------------------------------------
Moderation of Steve Nelson's emails
-------------------------------------
Rob made a motion that Steve Nelson's emails be
moderated. In 6 months the board will reexamine
whether this measure is still required. Rich seconded
the motion and the motion was approved by unanimous
vote. 8 Voted in favor of the motion. There were no
oppositions and one abstention.
-------------------------------------
Nominating Committee
-------------------------------------
Phil Chambers a long standing member of the SJAA and
Cassegrain expert was nominated to serve on the SJAA
board.
-------------------------------------
Night Sky Network
-------------------------------------
Bob Havner is no longer working on this. Steve Nelson
gave an overview of the program and an inventory of
the kits that are available. The program has been in
search of volunteers over the past year and no one has
really stepped forward. Paul Kohlmiller expressed
interest in learning more about the program.
-------------------------------------
Simonds School and SJUSD
-------------------------------------
Simonds school requires the SJAA to sign their
indemnification contract and for the SJAA to provide
them with a copy of the club's insurance contract. The
effect of this decision is that if anything bad
happens related to the event then the SJAA will assume
responsibility so long if it is related to SJAA
volunteers or equipment.
-------------------------------------
Henry Coe and Proposed Budget
-------------------------------------
The governor has proposed that various state parks
including Henry Coe State Park be closed as part of
the budget cuts. Rob suggested that the SJAA write a
letter to the respective people responsible for this
decision who work for the state government in
Sacramento. In the letter the SJAA woiuld explain the
impact of this closure on the club's activities. Rob
to draft the letter.
Fremont Peak State Park would also be closed.
