[SJAAboard] Extra time reserved for the auction

As I looked more closely at the timing for the auction and concluded that we
did not reserve enough time to conduct the event. Today I reserved two
additional hours for the auction on Sunday. We now have Houge from 10:30 AM
until 5:30 PM. I paid an additional $94 dollars. The city required me to
draft a written explanation of the change.
With all due respect to the doubters, the city cares about how long we use
Houge for the auction. As I have said in the past since money is changing
hands this is a very set of rules. The auctions are now a special lease. The
city expects we will comply with the terms of that lease. Their discovering
that in the past the club was less than sincere concerning our holding money
making events cost us significant credibility. I believe I have rectified
that.
I can understand that long time club members will remember a day when the
city allowed the club to do anything we wanted. I can only say that I
remember 30 cent gasoline and the top of my head covered with hair (although
the memory of the latter is fading).
I am not willing to play "they are not likely to catch us". I am also not
willing to have off the record discussions on this. I will copy and reply
to any responses I receive on the public mail list since all of the actions
the club is taking are beyond reproach. I am willing to reject publicly any
suggestion that we operate in any other manner.
The good news is that we can now support a 150 item auction if that many
items are registered.
Operating according to the new rules does have a price. I have serious
doubts whether we can continue to use Houge after 2008 for the auction. We
will discuss this further at the May board meeting.
