Once again, Steve fails to understand that SJAA operates in a community of
local astronomers. SJAA never has restricted setting up at Houge or even
the school events to just members. We rely on non-members to fill out the
ranks of our volunteers. Our liability insurance specifically covers
volunteers. That is why we solicit with TAC for every SJAA event. Giving in
to Steven's scare tactics will strike at the very culture of what SJAA is.
Let us admit that we would have to background checks for every volunteer in
our entire program and not keep with the fiction that this is something that
just involves the school events. That would give you some idea of the
breadth of what Steven wants to require us to do.
I doubt we could prevent someone from setting up a Houge (a city park) in
any case.
As the member who is most likely to be sued (as president) this is not
something I am worried about. Remember last summer we received legal advice
to have everyone attending an SJAA star party sign a liability waiver! The
board correctly decided that it was willing to assume the incremental risk.
Steven you don't participate in these programs and given your history you
would pawn the implementation for this to others. I am tired of the amount
of time I have wasted dealing with your rants. Feel free to join Bill as an
ex-board member (Gary: is that unsubtle enough).
