I talked about this with Jim on Friday. There is an interesting
philosophical problem here.

At what point does a personal commitment to do a star party become an
organizational commitment? If I were to make a commitment as president, does
that automatically commit SJAA? Do I have that authority without the advice
and consent of the board?

I thought I understood this then Jim pointed out that he commits all the
time on behalf of the school star party organization; however, he has his
own resources to meet his commitments. If something happened the
organization would back him.

In this case a cadre of people has been doing these events. At least last
year's and this years never made it to the calendar.

The problem in this case is that the rest of the organization loathes the
site for a variety of reasons. No one is willing to own up to making the
commitment in the first place so it is hard to evaluate how much of this was
a personal and how much was an organizational commitment.

I would like to talk about this a more when everyone is in the same room.
Maybe this is a unique case and maybe it is a cautionary tale of what we
should be unilaterally committing to.
