But most of the loaner scopes are fitted with just the cheap stock
finders. They're "OK" but... well, need I say more? :)
Gary
== non-stock modifications? Labeled or designated?
Another aspect not mentioned:
On Beginner class telescopes, if we "improve them" so that they are
no longer "stock", how will beginners learn to HATE bad shit
like 6x30 singlet straight-through finders (mounted too close to
the tube none the less)? This is sort of a religous question I
guess!
Gary sort of mentions this: at least for finders, "stock" can
be included if "SJAA addition" is detachable. A beginner
would then be easily able to see why (many 'true believers'
like to use X1 reflex systems, and why many other 'truer
believers' like to use nice magnified (even right-angle)
'auxiliary-scope' finders. I noticed - more beginner scopes
(even the little 90 mm Maks) are now using X1 reflex, rather
than the old designs using X#@!! inappropriate lenses.
SO - This is a place where I'm sure Rob and Rich can have
fun (and maybe let Gary have some), spend some VERY
APPROPRIATE money, and provide a good lesson to
beginners to boot -
"You May Want To Add Some Stuff to a Stock Scope."
I Hope the Board coughs up the money for Rob's suggestion
(X1s for all)
Does anyone know how to make durable plastic labels
for "Stock Part" or SJAA addition"? A batch or these,
on the part and on the appropriate mounting spot, would
help 'newbees' figure out why we (sometimes) prefer one
form vs the other (or both-at-once). This would also be
usefull for the eyepiece boxes for added/stock lenses.
Steven
PS this only applies to "stock" telescopes in the beginner
category.
