===Reports===
Treasurer Report
Fiscals continue to
be managed well, the draft of the financial report covering the last two years
is ready for review.
General Meeting Programs
John Dillon canceled
for Feb, we need a replacement, or we can have a different sort of meeting and
have members ask questions, give feedback, offer suggestions, etc. This would coincide well with the February
meeting since this is the meeting for board elections. We could also have a
potluck, bbq, or some such event. Board
will solicit ideas for other speakers or continue planning for an alternate
event.
Membership Report
Report will be distributed
for board approval via email. We have
had an uptick of new members.
Publicity report
Cambrian Festival
from last month went well where hundreds of members of the public stopped by
the SJAA booth to view the sun through the solar scope. There is another festival next weekend if we
have volunteers. We have also been
sending flyers out to the Santa Clara Open Space Authority star gazing events
that is run by SJAA member Chris Kelly, who is a docent for the OSA.
Loaner program
Status Report - Lee
has submitted a list of which telescopes are out, what is available and what
has been recently returned. We also have
identified which are not as popular.
School star parties
Jim Van Nuland sent a
report via email report. Find it here:

Coverage for upcoming
activities
Sept 23 - Mark opens
and closes, Robert will help. It's a
class night and Mark will send out a draft which should be geared for kids.
===Old Items===
Bay Area Science Week
SJAA will participate
by holding a Houge public star party on that Saturday, 05 Nov. Jim Van Nuland is coordinating the event and
will open and close Houge, along with Rob and Michael. There were ideas for a Plan B in case the
weather cooperates or not, and we can do these things even if the weather is
good. There is an educational series of
videos called Great Courses, and we can run them in the Hall. We can also show some of the short
what’s-in-the-sky videos, or even show Contact, though it may be too long, not
appropriate. Board will continue to plan
and nail down the plan.
===New Items===
"Bingo Under the
Stars"
There was hardship
created by the day's events and the parking situation. We may be facing a use conflict with this
group, other groups. Greg suggests
sending a letter to the EMQ asking them to consider the SJAA events when they
schedule their events; ask them to leave the front strip of the parking lot for
the astronomers.
Partnering with the
Santa Clara County Open Space Authority
The SJAA has the
opportunity to help with the public star gazing events at the OSA’s site Rancho
Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve. The
staff at the OSA was excited with partnering up with the SJAA as it would
benefit the outreach of both organizations. Rob will continue to pursue this opportunity and report back to the
board over the coming months.
City Reports
The board reviewed
the draft financial report from the treasurer which will be sent to the City of
San Jose (CSJ). Mark makes motion to
accept the report and submit it to CSJ, Greg seconds; motion passes. Mark will create an
activities report to submit to the city. There were a good number of club
scopes that were sold, so that's why the club shows so well for the past
auction. This brought up the idea of
soliciting donations of scopes or other astronomical gear; the club could keep
them or sell them at either the auction or the swap.
Club Scopes
Lee created a list of
scopes that don't get borrowed much. Mark makes a motion to allow Lee to make a determination of scopes that
will be made available for sale at the swap meeting, such as scope numbers 36,
45, 50, 55, 57. Motion passes.
Meeting adjourned at
7:47.
