where we were a month ago in terms of financial status.

We lost a net of five
members. Rob made a motion to approve all new and renewing members, Mark
seconded, all approved.
Publicity
We are utilizing all
the regular publicity venues, such as TAC, Night Sky Network, Announce List,
Meetup, Twitter. There was one entry to the SJAA blog which discussed the board’s
solar scope acquisition activity.
Loaner program
The reported was
provided.
School star parties
The report was sent
two days ago and is busy, running as it always does.
Upcoming events
Michael Packer will
be teaching an upcoming beginners class.
Prices
for the scopes to divest
There
are 5 scopes, #36 ($150), #45 ($300), #50 ($200), # 55 ($150), #57 ($400), #58
($50).
Sound
system: Kevin is to update, but he is not in attendance.
Attendance
at Board Meetings
Gordon
Reade has missed three meetings in a row; by laws say that the board can remove
a board member by vote an individual after three consecutive unexcused
absences. Robert made a motion to convey that the board appreciates the work
that Mr. Reade has been doing for the SJAA, but recognizes that there may be
other priorities in his life and hopes that he will continue to participate in
the club activities; the board considers the seat now open. The board unanimously voted for the motion.
Nominees
Mark
will ensure that the names of the board members up for election will be printed
in the newsletter.
Solar
Scope Acquisition
Rich,
Mina, Robert is part of the committee to determine a recommendation. Motion was made to purchase the Lunt 100mm
visual scope. Unanimously passes. We’ll have a separate discussion about
eyepiece selection and mount. Michael
Packer will be added to the solar scope acquisition committee.
Divesting
the Daystar solar scope
We
will try to sell it at the swap meet tomorrow for $1000 for the whole package,
mount and all.
Spending
limits by the CSJ: We are spending more than what we bring in for the year, but
how can we carry over some of the spending to subsequent years in the event
that we have a down years in terms of income? Mark and Robert will approach the
CSJ to work out a viable solution and still meets the spirit of the city requirements.
Transit
of Venus, partnering with the OSA
Mark
made a motion to partner with the OSA for the transit event, unanimously
approved. We may consider another solar scope, a Dob.
Activities
for nights that are weathered out
We
now have the Great Courses DVD, 12 lectures at 30 minutes each; we can show two
of them on nights we are weathered out. Next month, we will continue the
discussion about things like seating capacity, having the opener/closer set it
all up and run the program, etc.
Alternate
methods of payment
Rob
mentions there is another form of payment that the SJAA may want to employ to
make online memberships easier for those members who do not want to send in a
physical check or use PayPal. It’s called Dwolla.com. Rob will investigate and
report back.
Adjourn
at 7:41PM.
