Subject: [AANC Contacts] Seeing in the dark - local connections
I just finished watching the local (in LA) broadcast (ok, I TIVOed it
and watched it tonight because I worked late last night) of Seeing in
The Dark. You have heard about it in previous announcements here on
your AANC list. Here is where to get more information about the show,
though it aired last night. http://www.pbs.org/seeinginthedark/.
Golly, but Mojo and I did a double take at the beginning of the show!
There were AANC club members Ken Frank and Bob English doing some good
old-fashioned San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomy right there on our
television set! I really enjoyed the whole show. Ken and Bob are in the
introduction, and again during the first couple minutes, and listed in
the credits. And on the accompanying show website
http://www.pbs.org/seeinginthedark/?campaign=pbshomefeatures_2_seeinginthedark_2007-09-20
you can see Ken and Bob in freeze-frame glory as the Astronomy Club
Local Resources page banner poster guys (suitable for downloading to say
to your friends that you knew them before they were bannered). I hope
they didn't get hit by the oncoming cable car tho'. :-) Here is the
website for that banner:

Also featured in the show is AANC's Ron Bissinger, Pleasanton's own
exoplanet searcher extraordinaire.Ron often attends the AANC meetings.
It's great to read about amateur astronomers who collaborate with
professional astronomers. Ron's experience is a great inspiration to
all of us!
I also liked the website's digital Sky Chart . It is fantastic for
members of the general public who have not already purchased some sky
chart software - it's free and easy to use. If I were a Northern
California Astronomy Club, I would link to this sky chart on my website.

.
There is more on the PBS website for those who want more - there is
great outreach usable material. See some of you in just two short weeks
at the AANC conference! Here is the website with registration
