Hi All,
This just popped up last Friday. I thought this group might be
interested in the job posting for a Telescope Tech at Lick Observatory.
It requires a decent electronics background. An astronomy background is
a plus and certainly helps.
The job and its description can be found at: https://jobs.ucsc.edu In
the upper left hand corner click on 'Search Postings' and enter job
number 0701299 (or search for the keyword 'Telescope').
Aside from working right where discoveries in astronomy are made on a
regular basis, the Telescope Techs work every other week. That's great
for getting out and traveling (say, to star parties). Of the two work
shifts, one is a day shift and one is a night shift. Plus you get to
live in a good observing site -- great for the amateur observations
too. There is some opportunity to use the 40" Nickel telescope for
research projects too.
I know a handful of you all and would love to see some applicants from
the local astronomy community. I'm not on the hiring committee, so
submit your resume at the web site above.
Just a heads up...
Kris Miller
Principal Telescope Technician
Lick Observatory
